Thursday, July 12, 2012-Campground of Poo!

Pueblo, CO to Ordway, CO (62 Miles)

The adventure cycling route took me on a different route through Pueblo, than we had toured  last evening. There were some really nice houses, a big city park, zoo, riverwalk area, convention center, and nice capital building. So, maybe we should give Pueblo another chance sometime in the future. The balance of the day was rather flat and uneventful. My average mph increased and I arrived in Ordway ahead of the camper caravan. So, it was time to try some ice cream at the local dairy stand. Mmmm…Good (except for the momentary brain freeze)!

The campsite was found to be behind the local truck stop. It appeared to be a KOA at one time, but I believe they sold the frontage to the truckstop. The person at the truckstop was in charge of collecting the $20 for the night stay and she said pick any spot you want to stay. Once we drove around to the campsite, we found it had been left go to weeds. The pool is empty and full of weeds, only some of the sites had working electricity. The entire area was littered with horse and goat manure. There was a goat tied at the edge of the camp area letting us know that he wanted some attention. Then the neighbors were all around in mobile homes and it smelled of manure in the air. When the neighbors started riding their horses through the park, that was the last straw for the ladies. They marched to the truckstop person and ended up talking to the park owner’s wife on the phone. She said they allow the neighbors to let the animals graze the park to keep the weeds down. But, she would pass along the “concern” to her husband. It was not too long that the neighbor girls came around with a wheel barrow and shovel cleaning up the piles.

Well, we stayed the night, as there was no other camping option. We stayed inside most of the afternoon, but did sit out after it cooled off. I worked on the bike (as the gears are not shifting smoothly.) It will probably be a while before we are in a town with a bike mechanic.)
Crossed another Interstate. (I-25 goes to Colorado Springs and Denver)
These daisies grow wild along the road.
The land is totally flat with very few housing, but when there is a house, it typically looks like this. No need to throw anything away.
 Ice Cream in Ordway...Yum!

Can you eat those road apples? Looks like they took the old chairs out of the truckstop and put out to use as a picnic table.
