In Yellowstone, MT (0 Miles)
Although there was a recent day off, we wanted to spend some
time to further explore the Nation’s first park. The day started in the 35
degree range and warmed into the 80’s.
Our showering arrangement
at the campgrounds are not usually mentioned, but this one was a little different. At the
campground check–in, everyone was issued a ticket for one shower a day. The
shower house was less than a mile from our campsite. After fixing breakfast, we
headed to the shower house building. Upon arrival, we were directed to a
cashier who issued us a receipt based on what we received at check-in. The
receipt was then issued to another person outside the shower “room” who would
then buzz you in the door (men & women were in separate doors). Once
inside, you had to wait in line for one of the 12 shower stalls to open up. It
was like you were in high school, or the military. But we were able to clean
up, so all was well.
We packed a picnic lunch, and drove around the East side of
the park loop. The drive around Yellowstone Lake was amazing with views of the
mountains in the background. Lunch was next to the lake where we could watch
boats motoring around. One of the highlights of the day was the Grand Canyon of
Yellowstone, where there was an amazing falls and a mammouth canyon carved out
by the Yellowstone river. There were
more bison to see today, plus a couple elk with huge antlers!
For dinner, we ate next to Yellowstone Lake at the Lake
House Restaurant. Kim and I enjoyed a Bison Burger. We stopped at a the Grant
Village Visitor Center and General Store, then back to the camp for a
campfire. An unforgettable day!
